Coloring is not just for kids anymore! Coloring is a stress reliever for adults, it turns your brain off while opening up your creative side. I find when I am focusing on a creative task all my stresses from work and life just hide somewhere in the background of my brain. What a great feeling to turn all the noise off for a short time. On the plus side you can color with your kids and it’s relaxing quality time together.
My kids actually prefer the adult-style coloring books to what is out there for kids. Our favorites are the mandalas or other geometric designs. I’ve actually framed up some of the mandalas I colored as art for the walls, they are beautiful, could be a frugal gift idea.

My favorite coloring medium are pencil crayons, but you have to get decent quality ones. I press quite hard with my pencil crayons to get that deep rich color, but often my hand gets tired before I’m ready to take a break. We have this set:
Sharpies are an excellent choice for fast easy coloring, you can have a picture complete in one sitting. The colors are just as bright as pencil crayons, but you can’t get a subtle soft look with sharpies. We have this great sharpie set:
